Speedflex enters new partnership with Gateshead Council

HIIT specialist, Speedflex, is set to launch a new studio at Gateshead International Stadium in partnership with Gateshead Council. The studio was officially opened by Speedflex Ambassador, and football legend, Alan Shearer on 5 February.

The new studio forms part of a wider investment project for Gateshead Council, which to date has included a new state-of-the-art gym, refurbishment of the sports hall, and 3G artificial turf football pitches. The site will also see further investment in the athletics track later in the year following the recent announcement that Gateshead International Stadium has been selected to host the Muller Grand Prix.

By introducing Speedflex, Gateshead Council hopes to make HIIT more accessible to the local community, thanks to the machines' unique hydraulic-based technology.

The concept is extremely accessible to all, as the machines generate personalised resistance levels, so every individual can train at their optimum level. The unique concept delivers all the benefits of HIIT, but without the risk of injury. The machines also reduce post-exercise pain (something usually associated with this type of training), as the machines are responsive to the user’s force, rather than the addition of weight - unlike more traditional training regimes.

“We are excited to be partnering with Speedflex,” says Cllr Linda Green, Cabinet Member for Communities and Volunteering at Gateshead Council.

“What we really like about Speedflex sessions is that every individual can train at their perfect level, regardless of age or ability. As a local authority operator, this is really important for us, as we have a wide-ranging membership demographic. It allows us to offer something completely different to our members.”

Paul Ferris, CEO of Speedflex, said: “Operators are increasingly looking for high-quality fitness concepts which stand up to scrutiny, yet offer something different to their members. They are looking for ‘boutique-style’ fitness experiences where members can benefit from smaller classes and a high standard of trainer-led coaching."

“The Speedflex concept fits these requirements perfectly, due to the inclusive nature of the workout and the fact it promises ‘HIIT without the Hurt’ – in other words, no exercise-related aches and pains the next day. We look forward to working with Go Gateshead and encouraging those who would not traditionally visit a gym to try something different.”
